What is FitMinds?
FitMinds is a free eight-week brain health course designed to stimulate the mind in fun, engaging, and meaningful ways. Research suggests that lifestyle-based programs such as FitMinds can help reduce the risk of dementia by up to 33%.
The program consists of seven 90-minute sessions, each including:
- 30 minutes of engaging lecture-style learning
- 60 minutes of interactive activities such as puzzles, memory recall exercises, storytelling, problem-solving, and computation
The final session is a graduation celebration recognizing participants for their commitment and participation.
Topics Covered
Throughout the program, we focus on five key areas that support healthy aging and brain health:
- Nutrition
- Socialization
- Mental Stimulation
- Spirituality
- Physical Activity
To support brain growth and reduce the risk of dementia, participants are encouraged to:
- Complete 30 minutes of "Sit and Be Fit" exercise 4 to 5 times per week
- Maintain proper hydration (approximately one cup of water for every 20 pounds of body weight)
- Engage in at least 30 minutes of daily mental stimulation that is both novel and challenging
Participants also receive take-home booklets and presentation materials to reinforce the concepts discussed during each session.
This program is graciously offered by Chartwell for Free! So come and join now!
